When will God Return?
Many people believe December 21, 2012 will be the end of the world. Does the Bible back that up? The Bible says:
But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe [were], so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. -- Matthew 24:36-37
Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back--whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. Mark 13:35
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. Matthew 24:11-13
So you can see that predictions of the day and hour of the end of the world are not supported Biblically. In fact the Bible does not claim the earth will be destroyed, although Armageddon is another story.
So what do we make of all the 2012 Mayan Calendar predictions? Well, there are many signs that point to the end times being near, such as the 11 phenomenon. This date could signify the beginning of major changes in the world; perhaps a shift of some kind. The galactic events that we know are going to take place could even help usher in the tribulation. Even if that is not the case, it is yet another wakeup call pointing to the time period we are living in.
The Bible says there will be a seven-year tribulation that will result in Jesus Christ's return to the earth to end Armageddon and set up His 1000 year Kingdom on Earth. The rapture occurs prior to the tribulation and the anti-Christ will come into power.
Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. -- Mark 13:28-32
So you can see we should know the general timeframe of when God returns, but not the exact date. It is widely believed that Israel becoming a nation in 1948 signifies the time period when the fig tree puts forth her leaves; be it the specific date or the general time period. That means while we do not know the exact date of Jesus' return, we do know the clock is ticking and we are in the 11th hour.
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains. -- Mark 13:8
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. -- 2 Timothy 3:1-5
